Emirates Airlines has announced that some of its flights scheduled for May 2nd will experience delays and cancellations due to expected thunderstorms in Dubai.
Flights already cancelled include those between Dubai and Istanbul (EK123/124), Johannesburg (EK763/764), Nairobi (EK719/720), Cairo (EK921/922), Amman (EK903/904), and Singapore (EK352/353). Affected passengers are being offered rebooking options.
Additionally, due to the possibility of road congestion leading to the airport, passengers are advised to use the Dubai Metro as much as possible, although it is noted that the metro is currently not operational at some stations.
In Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), heavy rains accompanied by thunder are forecasted through May 3rd. On May 1st, a joint assessment team, consisting of the Ministry of Interior and the National Weather Center, among others, held a meeting to discuss the latest updates. It is currently considered unlikely to escalate to the level of the heavy rains seen in April.
Dubai International Airport advises passengers to check the status of their flights and to arrive at the airport well in advance.
