WestJet inaugurated its Calgary-Seoul/Incheon route on May 17.
The service will operate with Boeing 787-9 aircraft three times a week, departing from Calgary on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and from Seoul/Incheon on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This seasonal operation will continue until October 27 and is set to resume next spring.
Canada hosts a significant number of Korean students and, due to increases in business, tourism, and immigration, shares a strong connection with South Korea, which is Canada’s seventh-largest partner country. Transportation of electronics, e-commerce, and general cargo is also anticipated.
This route to Asia by WestJet, following the Tokyo/Narita-Calgary route, becomes the second of its kind and the only direct connection between South Korea and the province of Alberta, Canada. Through a code-sharing partnership with Korean Air, it also provides access to six cities in four Asian countries from Seoul/Incheon.
