JR East to Operate Overnight Trains on 7 Lines in the Tokyo Area from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day
Tokaido Line ‘Muraoka New Station (Tentative Name)’ Scheduled to Open Around 2032
JR East has announced that construction of the Tokaido Line’s ‘Muraoka New Station (Tentative Name)’ will begin this autumn.
The new station, set to open around 2032, will be located approximately 2.6 kilometers from Ofuna Station and about 2.0 kilometers from Fujisawa Station in the Muraoka area. This area used to host the ‘Shonan Freight Station,’ dedicated to cargo. The cost of this new station will be shared by the prefecture (30%), Fujisawa and Kamakura cities (each 27.5%), and JR East (15%), totaling 15.5 billion yen.
In the vicinity of the station, within Fujisawa’s Muraoka district and Kamakura’s Fukazawa district, new urban development projects aimed at establishing a new urban core in the Shonan area are being planned by the prefecture and both cities.
