Finnair Completes Cabin Renewal for its Long-Haul Fleet
Finnair has completed the cabin renewal for its entire long-haul fleet.
The cabins of the Airbus A350-900 and Airbus A330-300 aircraft were renovated at a cost of 200 million euros. The cabin design features a sophisticated Nordic design with dark, calm tones, matching the color scheme of the lounges in non-Schengen areas.
The business class is arranged in a ‘1-2-1’ configuration, with up to 43 seats. The seats, developed in collaboration with Collins Aerospace, are designed as shell-type seats called ‘AirLounge,’ which allow for comfortable privacy and freedom of movement. Various sitting and resting postures are possible. The privacy dividers for the pair of seats on the aisle side are adjustable, catering to paired usage. The seats are equipped with AC power, USB-C and USB-A ports, and can charge devices wirelessly. Features also include an 18-inch monitor, reading light, Do Not Disturb light, and mood lighting featuring the Northern Lights. The concept was devised by London-based PriestmanGoode, with customization and final design by Finnair and Tangerine.
The premium economy class features a ‘2-4-2’ arrangement with up to 26 seats. Manufactured by HAECO, the ‘Vector Premium’ seats have a 38-inch seat pitch, 8-inch recline, leg rest, and adjustable headrest. Amenities include storage space for personal items, a 13-inch monitor, a single-piece table, AC power, and USB-A power, with design collaboration with Tangerine.
The new economy class is equipped with USB-A and USB-C power sources and an updated user interface for the in-flight entertainment system.
The service began to be introduced to the Japan routes from October 2022 on the Tokyo/Haneda to Helsinki line, August 2023 on the Tokyo/Narita to Helsinki line, and September 2023 on the Osaka/Kansai to Helsinki line. It is being deployed on long-haul routes in Asia, the Middle East, and America.
Chief Commercial Officer Ole Orvér stated, “It is wonderful that in just two years, we have been able to introduce the award-winning new cabins across our entire fleet. Our innovative business class seats and the newly established premium economy have received great reviews from customers. We recognize that our customers value unified service quality and reliability. Providing a consistent cabin concept on all flights is a significant step in our customer experience journey. Our research shows that customer satisfaction on long-haul flights has significantly improved with the renewal of the cabins.”
