Autonomous Transit System to Connect HKIA’s SkyCity with Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Awarded to PML Joint Venture
The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has conducted a bidding process for an autonomous mass transit system that will connect the SkyCity at Hong Kong International Airport with the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
The bid was won by a joint venture between KC Smart Mobility, a subsidiary of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, and Prime Motors, named KCM-PML. The consortium is working with Baidu as a technology provider and King Long as a vehicle supplier.
The system, which operates with a travel time of 3 minutes, can accommodate up to 16 passengers per vehicle. Initially, it is capable of transporting 500 passengers per hour in one direction, with the goal to ultimately increase this to 2,000 passengers. In the next phase of development, the system will extend from SkyCity to Tung Chung downtown, providing connections to the MTR and buses.
