American Airlines has inaugurated its Tokyo/Haneda to New York/John F. Kennedy route on June 28.
Following the return of the Tokyo/Haneda to Portland slot by Delta Airlines, a slot was allocated. The route operates daily round trips using the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
The schedule departs Tokyo/Haneda at 3:30 PM, arriving in New York/John F. Kennedy on the same day at 3:35 PM. The return flight leaves New York/John F. Kennedy at 10:25 AM, arriving in Tokyo/Haneda the next day at 1:30 PM. In Tokyo/Haneda, through its joint business with Japan Airlines (JAL), it offers access to over 30 cities across Japan and East Asia.
The inaugural flight, AA167 from New York/John F. Kennedy, departed at 11:21 AM on June 28, and arrived at Tokyo/Haneda at 2:21 PM the next day, June 29. The return flight, AA168 from Tokyo/Haneda, departed at 4:39 PM on the same day, and is expected to arrive in New York/John F. Kennedy at 4:35 PM.
A launch event took place to celebrate the departure of the first flight from Tokyo/Haneda, featuring speeches by Jose Freig, American Airlines’ Vice President of International Operations, and Ross Leggett, JAL’s Executive Officer Aviation Operations Management.
With this launch, American Airlines now operates four daily round trips, including two daily round trips on the Los Angeles route and one daily round trip on the Dallas/Fort Worth route. This service becomes the only direct flight between both airports by an American carrier, complementing the two daily round trips operated by JAL. Combined with JAL flights, this brings the total to up to 17 round trips per day, connecting Japan and the United States.
