WEST EXPRESS Ginga: First Overnight Service on the Sanyo Route Begins October
JR West Japan will operate the overnight train “WEST EXPRESS Ginga” between Kyoto and Shimonoseki stations (via the Sanyo Line) from October 4, 2024, to March 12, 2025.
This marks the first time for overnight operations on the Sanyo route, with both up and down lines in service. The “WEST EXPRESS Ginga” is a tourist-oriented express train, remodeled from the 117 series previously used on the Kosei Line among others, featuring some seats that convert to full-flat and offering hospitality such as meal service at certain stations.
The operation days are as follows: down trains will depart on Mondays and Fridays, excluding October 7, November 11 and 22, and January 3; up trains will depart on Wednesdays and Saturdays, excluding October 9, November 13 and 23, and January 4. These dates are subject to change.
