Niigata Prefecture will host the “THE NIIGATA Premium Sake Shinkansen” event on August 24, where passengers can enjoy pairing local sake with food onboard the Tokaido Shinkansen ‘Nozomi’.
Car 16 of the ‘Nozomi’ will be chartered between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka stations, offering Niigata Prefecture’s local sake and dishes specifically paired with Japanese sake, as well as desserts.
The cost for the Tokyo departure plan is 40,000 yen per person, while the Shin-Osaka departure plan is 32,000 yen per person. Both plans include 14 types of Japanese sake from 9 breweries. In honor of the registration of Sado Island’s gold mines as a World Cultural Heritage site, 5 breweries from Sado City will provide 10 types of Japanese sake. The remaining types of sake differ between the Tokyo departure and Shin-Osaka departure.
Furthermore, brewery owners and brewers from 5 Sado City breweries will be onboard to introduce each type of Japanese sake. Additionally, a performance of Sado Island’s traditional Oni Taiko drums will be presented.
The Tokyo departure plan leaves at 10:54 AM from Tokyo and arrives at 1:24 PM in Shin-Osaka (‘Nozomi 339’), while the Shin-Osaka departure plan leaves at 3:21 PM from Shin-Osaka and arrives at 5:51 PM in Tokyo (‘Nozomi 410’). The return trip cost is not included. Both plans have a capacity of 60 participants, and applications are accepted on the JR Central Tours website until August 9.
