Virgin Australia has placed an order for 8 Embraer E190-E2 jets.
As part of its fleet renewal program, deliveries are set to begin in the latter half of 2025, with plans to commence operations based in Perth by October of the same year.
The jets will be operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA) for charter flights, complementing the larger single-aisle planes and replacing the current Fokker 100s. About AUD 35 million is being invested in Perth for the construction of a hangar.
Virgin Australia Regional Airlines was established in 1963 as Carnarvon Air Taxis, a subsidiary of Ansett Australia, and was acquired by Virgin Australia in 2013 after being owned by a Singaporean investment firm.
