ANA Launches In-Flight Safety Video Featuring Pikachu, Exclusive to Pokémon-themed Aircraft
All Nippon Airways (ANA) has unveiled an in-flight safety video and deplaning video starring characters from the “Pokémon” series. According to ANA, this is the first in-flight safety video featuring Pokémon characters in the world. It will be exclusively shown on two aircraft, “Pikachu Jet NH” (Boeing 787-9, registration number: JA894A) and “Eevee Jet NH” (Boeing 777-300ER, registration number: JA784A), from August 15 until the end of August 2028, for approximately four years.
The in-flight safety video features 18 types of characters explaining safety-related aspects and important points about the cabin in an easy-to-understand manner through the Pokémon. The deplaning video portrays a story where Pikachu, who got lost during a journey, safely reunites with its trainer thanks to the coordination of ANA staff working at the airport, with around 15 types of characters making an appearance. Both videos support narration in Japanese and English, along with subtitles in 18 languages. Sign language versions are available in Japanese Sign Language and International Sign.
The project was proposed by ANA to Pokémon and took about a year and a half to produce. It was announced at Haneda Airport to coincide with the departure ceremony of the player delegation participating in the Pokémon World Championships 2024 in Honolulu from August 16 to 18, and during the summer high traffic season. Motoaki Ueno, Vice Director of ANA’s CX Promotion Office and Head of CX Strategy, said, “Recently, there has been a heightened awareness of safety in the skies. By demonstrating cabin scenarios through Pokémon, the content is enjoyable for individuals of all ages, from children to adults, ensuring that everyone can fully understand safety through the entire video.”
Broadcasting will start with flight NH186 from Tokyo/Haneda to Honolulu operated by “Pikachu Jet NH” on August 15. The video can also be viewed on ANA’s official YouTube channel.
Since March 2023, ANA has been participating in Pokémon’s “Flying Pikachu Project.” Since June 4 of the same year, “Pikachu Jet NH” has been operating on international flights, followed by “Eevee Jet NH” beginning August 31.
