JAL Launches Commercial Operations of Its Fifth Airbus A350-1000 Aircraft
Japan Airlines (JAL) has commenced commercial operations of its fifth next-generation Airbus A350-1000 aircraft (registration code: JA05WJ) today, August 22.
The inaugural flight was from Tokyo/Haneda to New York/John F. Kennedy, carrying 17 crew members and 234 passengers, a total of 251 people. It departed Tokyo/Haneda at 11:18 AM and took off at 42 minutes past the hour.
The aircraft had conducted a ferry flight from Toulouse, France, on August 10 and arrived at Haneda Airport on August 11.
The Airbus A350-1000 is intended as the new flagship aircraft for international routes, succeeding the current mainstay, the Boeing 777-300ER, with 13 units ordered. The cabin has a four-class configuration with 239 seats, featuring six First Class seats in a ‘1-1-1’ layout, 54 Business Class seats in a ‘1-2-1’ layout, 24 Premium Economy seats in a ‘2-4-2’ layout, and 155 Economy seats in a ‘3-3-3’ layout. For the first time in JAL’s history, First and Business Class are private suites with doors. In-flight entertainment (IFE) across all classes includes 4K resolution monitors and the ability to connect wireless headphones via Bluetooth.
