EVA Air has become the first airline in Asia to implement the cutting-edge riblet film ‘AeroSHARK’ on cargo planes.
‘AeroSHARK’, jointly developed by Lufthansa Technik and the German chemical industry giant BASF, is a film that replicates the hydrodynamic skin of sharks. By applying it, air resistance can be reduced, leading to a reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by about 1%.
On the Boeing 777F model aircraft, this could result in an annual reduction of more than 2,500 tons of fuel and over 7,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The first equipped aircraft is expected to commence operations in early September, with plans to gradually increase the number of equipped aircraft by 2027.
