Qantas Begins Deploying Airbus A380 on Sydney to Johannesburg Route
Qantas Airways has commenced the deployment of the Airbus A380 aircraft on the Sydney–Johannesburg route starting from September 30.
The service operates six round trips per week, excluding Tuesdays, from both Sydney and Johannesburg. The flight duration is 14 hours and 40 minutes from Sydney, and 11 hours and 55 minutes from Johannesburg. It is the only Airbus A380 service crossing the Southern Indian Ocean, offering views of the Antarctic continent on clear days.
Currently, Qantas is operating 8 out of its 10 Airbus A380 aircraft, with plans to return the remaining 2 to service within the next 18 months. Besides Johannesburg, Qantas’ A380s fly to Los Angeles, Singapore, and London/Heathrow.
Furthermore, subject to regulatory approval, it is anticipated that a Perth–Johannesburg route will be launched in mid-2025.
