Major Renovation of South Gate Building at Osaka Station

JR West Station City, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores, and JR West SC Development have commenced a major renovation of the South Gate Building at Osaka Station.

This marks the first full-scale renewal since its opening in 2011, and the renovation will rebuild the commercial area from the second basement floor to the 15th floor above ground into distinctive commercial establishments to create a vibrant atmosphere. The renovation will be carried out in phases starting from the fall of 2025, aiming for a grand opening in 2029.

The new commercial area will feature Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores from the second basement floor to the 9th floor, and JR West SC Development will operate from the 10th to the 15th floors. Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores is positioning the Daimaru Umeda store as a key hub in the Kansai area and is fundamentally revising its floor plan to activate the area and create synergies. JR West SC Development is developing a shopping center that accumulates attractive specialty stores, expecting synergies and cross-shopping with Lucua Osaka.

The South Gate Building is a complex commercial facility directly connected to JR Osaka Station, comprising department stores, hotels, clinics, and more. It opened in 1983 as the 27-story complex “Acty Osaka” with 4 basement floors and was expanded in 2011 with the addition of a 15-story building, acquiring its current name. The site area is about 10,075 square meters, and the total floor area is 171,000 square meters.

Around Osaka Station, “JP Tower Osaka” opened in November 2023, “Inogate Osaka” in July of this year, and a preliminary unveiling of the Umekita Phase 2 area was also conducted in September.
