JAL Renews ‘JAL STEAM SCHOOL’, Combining It with Factory Tours
Japan Airlines (JAL) will renew its ‘JAL STEAM SCHOOL’ starting October 19th.
The ‘JAL STEAM SCHOOL’ is a part of JAL’s ‘Soraiku’ (education about the sky) activities, focusing on ‘STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics)’ education. It is an experiential program unique to an airline, offering new perspectives on the world of aviation. Participants can design airplanes by combining various wing shapes and learn the basics of aerodynamics using simulators. The program has been held since 2017 with the cooperation of aircord.
The program will be updated to include a factory tour, transforming the content from being primarily for children to a wider audience from children to adults. It will now include choices such as wing shape and position, wind direction affecting the airplane, cargo loading position, and engine size, allowing for a more diverse exploration of flight characteristics. By combining the program with a factory tour, participants can visit the actual aircraft maintenance site, providing a deeper learning experience through real-world exposure.
The program will be held on Mondays and Saturdays. The cost is 1,500 yen per person, with a capacity of 20 participants. The location is at the JAL Maintenance Center 1, JAL Factory Tour.
