Minatomirai Line to Start Demonstration Experiments of Boarding with Touch Payment and QR Codes Within the Year
Yokohama Rapid Railway will start demonstration experiments of boarding with touch payment-supported credit cards and QR boarding passes within this year.
The experiment will be conducted jointly with Mitsui Sumitomo Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC, utilizing the ‘stera transit,’ a public transportation solution provided by Mitsui Sumitomo Card.
Passengers will be able to board by touching cards or smartphones that support touch payment to the newly installed dedicated readers at the gates. The supported brands include Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay, with Mastercard to be added sequentially. Boarding with QR boarding passes can be utilized by holding the QR boarding pass, purchased from ticket sale sites, up to the dedicated readers installed at automatic ticket gates.
