LATAM Airlines Group has adopted the riblet film ‘AeroSHARK.’
‘AeroSHARK,’ co-developed by Lufthansa Technik and BASF, a leading chemical company in Germany, is a film that replicates the hydrodynamic skin of sharks. By applying it, air resistance is reduced, which can decrease fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by about 1%.
In December 2023, implementation of ‘AeroSHARK’ commenced on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, followed by operational tests. Taking the results into account, LATAM Airlines Brazil decided to extend the application to four more aircraft of the same model. This marks the first adoption by an airline in the Americas.
