Increase in Armed Robberies in Manila, Foreigners Targeted?
The Japanese Embassy in the Philippines has issued a warning regarding the increasing number of armed robbery incidents in the Metro Manila area, noting that several Japanese nationals have fallen victim.
The background of these crimes is unclear, but it is suggested that foreigners may be targeted. The perpetrators remain at large. It’s noted that all recent robbery cases involving Japanese victims have occurred at night.
The embassy recommends avoiding walking at night as much as possible and, if it’s necessary to walk, choosing the sidewalk facing the oncoming vehicles and staying away from the edge closest to the roadway. It’s also advised to carry bags on the side opposite the roadway or in front of the body.
