New Control Tower at Fukuoka Airport to Start Operations on December 5
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will start the operation of the new control tower at Fukuoka Airport on December 5, in preparation for the use of the airport’s second runway.
The new control tower stands at 90.9 meters above ground, making it the second tallest in Japan after Haneda Airport’s tower. The current tower stands at 31.4 meters above ground, and the new tower greatly improves visibility. It is a 13-story building with a total floor area of 3,305 square meters. It has been constructed to ensure visibility of the entire airport and its surroundings, in preparation for the operation with two runways. The construction was undertaken by Taisei Corporation.
The start of operation for the second runway is planned for the end of March 2025.
