JAL Detects Alcohol in Two Pilots, Causing a 3-Hour and 11-Minute Delay for Flight from Melbourne to Narita on December 1
JAL and NEC Utilize AI to Automatically Analyze the Number and Type of Carry-on Baggage for Delays Mitigation
Japan Airlines (JAL) and NEC Corporation have conducted a pilot experiment to automatically analyze the number and type of carry-on baggage at the boarding gate, estimating the load capacity.
The experiment utilized the “NEC Baggage Counting Solution,” which employs machine learning (AI) for automatic analysis. This solution could potentially address one of the causes of flight delays related to carry-on luggage.
Luggage is detected and categorized at the boarding gate. It is then compared with the cabin’s storage capacity, notifying of any overloading. The pilot test was carried out at Haneda Airport Terminal 1’s Gate 13 from April to September, evaluating its effectiveness.
