Mitsui OSK Cruises Launches New Cruise Ship ‘MITSUI OCEAN FUJI’: All Suites, 32,000-ton Class
Mitsui OSK Cruises launched its new cruise ship ‘MITSUI OCEAN FUJI’ from Yokohama Port on December 1st for its debut cruise.
Mitsui OSK Cruises announced the launch of a new cruise brand ‘MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES’ in October 2023. The newly debuted MITSUI OCEAN FUJI is the first of this brand, originally the ‘SEABOURN ODYSSEY’ operated by Seabourn Cruise Line, purchased and refurbished into a luxury class ship in March 2023. With a gross tonnage of 32,477 tons, a length of 198.15 meters, and a width of 25.6 meters, its port of registry is the Bahamas. The ship has a passenger capacity of 458, with all 229 cabins classified as suite cabins, offering an experience that combines Japanese quality hospitality with Western luxury quality.
The debut cruise departed from Yokohama and will travel through Beppu, Busan, Shimonoseki, and return to Tokyo over a seven-day journey. An event was held at Yokohama Port’s new port pier passenger terminal (Yokohama Hammerhead) to coincide with departure time on December 1st, with students from Yokohama Municipal Port Junior High School’s brass band performing in celebration. As the ship slowly left the dock around 5 p.m., people gathered at the harbor waved yellow penlights to see it off.
For the time being, MITSUI OCEAN FUJI will serve short cruises mainly within Japan, including stops in South Korea. An around-the-world cruise was initially set from April 12th, 2025, for 100 days but was cancelled considering the situation around the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. Instead, a long cruise visiting 10 countries and regions over 66 days has been set starting May 13th, 2025.
