KLM Catering Services Introduces the World’s First Electric Catering Truck
KLM Catering Services has introduced electric catering trucks, marking a world first for the catering industry. The trucks feature an electric engine for the refrigeration system, offering quieter operation compared to previous models. Initially, two trucks have been introduced.
The development was commissioned to airport infrastructure suppliers DOLL and Mallaghan, with Volvo manufacturing the chassis. The performance of the trucks, their impact on the catering process, and user-friendliness were evaluated, with the insights gained to be used for further optimization. This initiative contributes to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ground operations to zero by 2030.
