Finnair is ending standby duty for pilots after the Finnish Air Line Pilots’ Association (FALPA, SLL) refused arbitration for a settlement.
Starting December 12, standby duty by unionized pilots will be prohibited. This may lead to flight cancellations in cases such as pilot illness. Along with the already prohibited overtime, this could affect overall operations.
In the event of cancellations, passengers will be notified via email or SMS and offered alternative flights. If the alternative is scheduled for the next day, accommodations will also be provided.
