Seibu Railway to Introduce Train Boarding Service via Contactless Payments Starting December 16
Seibu Railway will start supporting train boarding with contactless payments such as credit cards at select stations from December 16.
This initiative will be conducted in collaboration with Mitsui Sumitomo Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Omron Social Solutions, and QUADRAC.
The service will be available at a total of 21 stations including Ikebukuro Station, Nerima Station, Seibu Shinjuku Station, and Seibuen Yuenchi Station. Passengers can board and alight by touching their supported card or smartphone to a newly installed dedicated reader at the ticket gates. The supported brands are Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay. Mastercard will be added sequentially.
QR code readers will also be installed. Users of digital ticket plans can use the automatic ticket gates at the applicable stations. By March 2026, the service is planned to be available at 50 stations, and by March 2027, it is expected to be supported at all stations.
