Azerbaijan Airlines Suspends Flights to 8 Russian Airports

Azerbaijan Airlines will suspend operations to eight Russian airports starting December 28.

This move comes as directed by the Azerbaijani authorities, based on the preliminary investigation of the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane en route from Baku to Grozny. The suspension considers the potential risks to flight safety identified in the investigation. Operations will remain suspended until the investigation is complete.

The affected cities include Mineralnye Vody, Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, and Vladikavkaz. The airline had already suspended flights to Grozny and Makhachkala since December 25.

Furthermore, the bodies of the passengers and crew of the crashed plane will soon be transported to Azerbaijan. Injured passengers, if their health permits, will be transferred to Azerbaijan on special flights by Azerbaijan Airlines. The company’s board of auditors has decided to compensate injured passengers with 20,000 manats and bereaved families with 40,000 manats, in accordance with Azerbaijani law and international practices.
