Swiss Flight’s Emergency Landing Results in Death of a Cabin Crew Member
Swiss International Airlines announced the death of a cabin crew member who was on board LX1885, which made an emergency landing on December 23.
The flight, traveling from Bucharest to Zurich (Airbus A220-300, registration number: HB-JCD), made an emergency landing in Graz due to smoke detected in the cockpit and cabin. Among the 79 crew and passengers, 12 received medical attention. One cabin crew member was transported to a hospital in Graz by helicopter. As of December 24, two cabin crew members were hospitalized, with one in intensive care.
CEO Jens Fehlinger commented, “This has deeply shocked and saddened us all. On behalf of all our employees, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of our colleague, who must be experiencing unimaginable pain.” The company has refrained from providing further details on the cause of death.
Ongoing investigations have revealed a technical issue with one engine. The investigations also focus on the use of protective respiratory equipment by cabin crew members.
