Seibu Railway to Start Operating Series 8000 Trains Acquired from Odakyu Electric Railway from the End of May
Seibu Railway has decided to start operating the Series 8000 trains it acquired from Odakyu Electric Railway from the end of May.
The company labels the VVVF inverter-controlled trains acquired from another company as “Sustena vehicles,” and the first set was acquired from Odakyu Electric Railway in May 2024. From July 1 thereafter, safety equipment upgrades along with changes to the vehicle design were undertaken at the Musashino Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot.
Exiting the Musashino Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot on January 7th, preparations are underway for operation commencement, including trial runs, test drives, and conductor training on various Seibu lines. The initial goal was to start operations by the end of fiscal year 2024.
