Panstar Group to Launch New Ship ‘Panstar Miracle’ on April 10
NYK Cruises is set to float out its new cruise ship ‘Asuka III’ on January 18th local time, in preparation for its service debut this summer.
The ship is currently under construction at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and is expected to leave the construction dock and start floating out around 10:00 AM. During the floating process, the funnel, which carries the ‘Asuka III’ name, will be installed. Subsequently, the ship will be moved from the construction dock to the adjacent outfitting quay by two tugboats.
The ‘Asuka III’ will be the largest Japanese-flagged cruise ship with a gross tonnage of 52,000 tons, a length of 230 meters, a width of 29.8 meters, and a draft of 6.7 meters. It features 385 cabins, all with balconies, and has a passenger capacity of approximately 740 people and a crew of about 470. Construction has been progressing smoothly since the steel cutting for the ship in September 2023. Ahead of sea trials, the ship is expected to sail approximately 32 kilometers towards the estuary of the Ems River in early spring, and after its official launch, it will operate out of Yokohama Port as part of a two-ship operation along with ‘Asuka II’.
