JR East to End Operation of
JR East will end the operation of the “Mangattan Liner I” on the Senseki Line on March 23.
The service began in March 2003 as a joint project with the city of Ishinomaki to revitalize the Senseki Line and promote the city in Miyagi Prefecture. On the final day, the last downward trip is scheduled to depart from Aoba-dori Station at 10:48 a.m. (arriving at Ishinomaki Station at 12:14 p.m.), and the upward trip will depart from Ishinomaki Station at 12:46 p.m. (arriving at Aoba-dori Station at 2:12 p.m.).
In line with the end of operations, a retirement ceremony will be held at Ishinomaki Station’s Senseki Line platform from around noon to 1 p.m. on March 23. Scheduled to appear are anime song singer and Ishinomaki tourism ambassador Masaaki Endoh, local hero “Sea Jetter Kaito,” the “Ogatamachi Date no Kurofune Taiko,” and local kindergarten children to bid farewell.
Additionally, posters introducing the “Mangattan Liner I” and tourism materials from Ishinomaki City will be displayed at JR East stations, and a special website will be launched.
