Fuji Dream Airlines (FDA) and Aichi Prefecture held a “Mount Fuji Sightseeing Flight” and special show “―道―DOU―” directed by designer Junko Koshino on January 17.
It was carried out as part of a Japan Tourism Agency research project, aiming to provide special experiences centered around Chubu Centrair International Airport with a theme of “Bushido.” The project targets affluent foreign tourists visiting Japan, creating tours, holding airport events, and promoting fermented culture.
Aichi Prefecture is actively promoting the local charm by hosting events and tours themed on “Bushido,” which is popular among foreign tourists, to expand inbound demand at Chubu Centrair International Airport and enhance networks. It is the first time an event combining martial arts and fashion has been held at Chubu Centrair International Airport.
The tour consisted of two parts: the sightseeing flight, divided into two flights, and a special show at Chubu Centrair International Airport. The special show was held at the 4th-floor event plaza as well as at the 1st-floor Center Pier Garden.
The sightseeing flight operated two flights, JH5401 at 8:30 am and JH5402 at 10:00 am, taking off from Chubu Centrair International Airport and flying for about an hour over the Northern Alps and Mount Fuji. There were 79 and 68 passengers on each flight, respectively, including foreigners.
The colorful headrest covers, designed for this charter flight, were illustrated with Koshino in an FDA uniform and given as gifts to participants upon disembarking.
During level flight, saxophonist Sanshiro performed live music, and announcements by Koshino enlivened the cabin. The weather around Mount Fuji was clear, offering a spectacular view from summit to base at an altitude of 4,700 meters.
Koshino designed the uniforms for FDA’s cabin crew, and participants could be seen asking questions to the flight attendants.
Participants received items such as tea and plane-shaped monaka sweets “Monajet” in a tote bag, a keyholder with Koshino in an FDA uniform, and a boarding certificate.
On the 4th floor event plaza, performances by ninjas, kendo, karate, and calligraphers were followed by a fashion show at the 1st-floor Center Plaza, showcasing a blend of “Wa” and modern styles. Both tour participants and the general public could view the performances and fashion show.
At the Center Plaza, a runway was set up, and as models clad in stylish black and gold-themed dresses appeared, spectators captured photos and videos.
Born in Kishiwada, Osaka, Koshino won the Soen Prize, a gateway for new designers, at the youngest age while studying at Bunka Fashion College’s Department of Design. Since 1978, she has participated in Paris Collections and held shows globally in places such as Beijing, New York, Vietnam, and Poland, earning high acclaim both domestically and internationally. Her work spans a wide range of fields beyond just clothing design, including opera and Broadway costumes, sports uniforms, fireworks, and interior design.
