Finnair Faces Potential Layoffs Amid Pilot Strike
Ryanair will close its Billund base in response to the Danish government’s introduction of an airline tax.
As a result, from the summer schedule, the two aircraft stationed at the base will be relocated, and 32 routes will be withdrawn. The number of seats affected is 1.7 million. There will be no more flights to or from Aalborg.
Pilots and cabin crew at the Billund base have been notified of the closure and are being offered relocation to other bases.
Since January, the Danish government has imposed an airline tax of up to 50 Danish Kroner per departing passenger. Ryanair stated, ‘Denmark’s connectivity, transport, employment, economic recovery, and growth will suffer irreparable damage, especially at regional airports that rely on cost-effective and efficient air travel.’
