Panasonic and Osaka Metro: Trial of Open Air Conditioned Station Waiting Booth Until September
Domestic rail companies are reviewing the “hazardous materials” sections and classification methods stipulated in their transportation terms and will strengthen restrictions on bringing such items onto trains starting April 1.
Following the “Guidelines for Countermeasures Against Railway Terrorism” established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the contents of the passenger operation rules that the six JR passenger companies will implement from the same date are presented as a model case for national regulations on bringing hazardous materials onto trains. The Ministry has informed rail operators nationwide to review their terms of transportation, as necessary, based on this.
Sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, even when stored in sealed containers, are completely prohibited from being brought onto trains, except for products commonly available for regular use at retail stores, such as battery fluids or strong toilet cleaners. Flammable liquids continue to be completely prohibited from being brought onto trains.
