Panasonic and Osaka Metro: Trial of Open Air Conditioned Station Waiting Booth Until September
According to JR East, while the Tohoku Shinkansen “Hayabusa & Komachi 21” was in operation, the coupling section detached, causing an emergency stop.
Around 11:30 AM on March 6, the coupling section detached while traveling between Ueno and Omiya Stations, leading the cars to an emergency stop in a separated state. After performing vehicle inspections, each train was operated independently to Omiya Station, and passengers transferred to a following train. Operations resumed on the entire line at 2:34 PM.
“Hayabusa 21” was a 10-car H5 Series heading from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori Station, and “Komachi 21” was a 7-car E6 Series heading from Tokyo to Akita Station. Both trains were coupled as “Hayabusa & Komachi 10” on the prior schedule, with the coupling taking place at Morioka Station.
The train was traveling at approximately 60 kilometers per hour at the time of the incident, and the distance between the cars after stopping was about 8 meters. No damage to the couplers was observed.
The Japan Transport Safety Board has classified this as a serious incident. JR East has suspended coupled operations until necessary measures are completed. (Photo: JR East)
