Yamagata and Akita Shinkansen Suspend Through Service to Tohoku Shinkansen Until March 14

JR East has announced that due to a vehicle separation incident on the Tohoku Shinkansen, the Yamagata and Akita Shinkansen will suspend through service to the Tohoku Shinkansen until March 14.

The Yamagata Shinkansen “Tsubasa” will turn back at Fukushima Station, and the Akita Shinkansen “Komachi” at Morioka Station, suspending through operations between Fukushima and Tokyo for the Yamagata Shinkansen, and between Morioka and Tokyo for the Akita Shinkansen. The Yamagata Shinkansen “Tsubasa 121” and “Tsubasa 160,” which operate independently, will continue direct service between Tokyo and Shinjo Station.

Refunds for tickets due to the section suspension of “Tsubasa” and “Komachi” will be handled at Midori no Madoguchi within a year of the designated travel date for those with Shinkansen express tickets. For e-ticket holders using the Shinkansen e-Ticket service, refunds will be processed automatically by the Eki-net Support Center. Additionally, the “Travel on Weekdays! JR East Tabikyun Early Discount Pass” is also accepting refunds and date changes without any fees.
