AirAsia Group Bans Use of Mobile Batteries Onboard from April 1
Peach Aviation has submitted recurrence prevention measures to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism concerning an incident where a captain and co-pilot failed to conduct a pre-flight alcohol test.
This incident occurred on flight MM774 from Singapore to Osaka/Kansai on January 7, during which the captain and co-pilot neglected to perform the pre-flight alcohol test as required by the operational regulations. A detailed investigation by the company found that the captain had consumed alcohol within 12 hours prior to starting his flight duties, in violation of the operational regulations.
Upon conducting an on-site inspection, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism discovered that the captain deliberately drank despite knowing it was during prohibited hours and gave false explanations during company inquiries. Although the captain was not under the influence during the flight, all crew members, including the captain, forgot to undergo the pre-flight alcohol test. The manager responsible for the tests also failed to take appropriate actions, despite the system showing that test results had not been received.
As recurrence prevention measures, Peach will enhance alcohol and compliance education, strengthen awareness surveys for all employees, and implement corrective actions to ensure the continuous effectiveness of its safety management system, including revamping the alcohol testing system. A support system regarding drinking habits will also be established.
