Korean Air Unveils New Livery on 787-10 After 41 Years, First Flight to Tokyo/Narita
Korean Air’s aircraft with a new design, featuring a revised logo for the first time in 41 years (Boeing 787-10, registration: HL8515), began operations on March 12.
Ahead of its merger with Asiana Airlines, Korean Air announced a new corporate identity (CI) on March 11. The aircraft with the new logo was unveiled at the company’s headquarters in Seoul, South Korea. The new logo retains the traditional image of the Taeguk mark while expressing a refined image with a single color, “Korean Air Dark Blue,” symbolizing dynamic energy and beauty. The font for “KOREAN AIR” has been changed from Roman to a simpler Gothic style. The spacing has been adjusted, and the curves drawn with a brush are meant to modernly express Korean elegance.
The new design changes the base color from the conventional light blue to a metallic shade, featuring a new Taeguk logo on the tail and soft curves flowing along the fuselage. This is the first 787-10 to adopt the new design, having been introduced on July 25, 2024, and the previous design will only be visible for about eight months. The fleet will be gradually updated with the new design.
Additionally, signs at the airports served are being updated with the new logo. At Narita Airport, logos on counter panels and commercial vehicles were replaced from the night of March 11 to the following day.
Flight KE703, the first to feature the new design, carried 309 passengers, departing Seoul/Incheon at 9:55 AM and arriving in Tokyo/Narita at 12:29 PM. The returning Seoul/Incheon flight, KE704, carried 224 passengers (including one infant), departing Tokyo/Narita at 1:54 PM. Commemorative gifts were distributed to passengers.
Korean Air acquired shares of Asiana Airlines on December 12, 2024, making it a subsidiary. The merger is expected to be completed after about two years of preparation.
