Malaysia Airlines, along with its group members Firefly and MASwings, will ban the use of mobile batteries in-flight starting April 1.
Additionally, passengers must carry mobile batteries at all times and store them under the seat or in the seat pocket during the flight. Storing them in the overhead compartment or checking them in as checked baggage is prohibited.
Mobile batteries capable of magnetic wireless charging must be stored in a separate bag or protective pouch to prevent unintended activation.
This safety measure is introduced following in-flight fire accidents suspected to be related to mobile batteries. Similar measures are spreading among Asian airlines, particularly in Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.
