Kawabata no Yuyado Takitei has completed the new construction of a library and premium lounge, and renovation of guest rooms, which had been postponed due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
A new library, “Shoko Usagi-Yume,” designed with a Taisho Romance motif and inspired by the writer Kyoka Izumi’s love for rabbits, was established, featuring approximately 4,800 selected books and manga. Although it was scheduled to open at the end of January 2024, delays occurred due to the difficulty in securing materials and construction workers after the earthquake impacted Takitei and Noto’s Ryokan no To Raku.
“Shoko Usagi-Yume” offers a collection of novels, essays, and poetry from both Japan and overseas, as well as series manga from artists like Osamu Tezuka and Fujiko F. Fujio. Combined with two existing libraries, the total book collection exceeds 7,000 volumes. The library is accessible 24 hours, and books can be taken anywhere within the facility to read in lounges or guest rooms.
Additionally, a new gallery lounge, “Anraku,” showcasing traditional crafts such as Kutani ware, Ohi ware, and Wajima lacquerware, as well as paintings by artists from Ishikawa Prefecture, has been introduced. It features a “Golden Snack Dispenser” and sofas made by local gold leaf manufacturer “Hakuichi”, and guests can enjoy soft drinks, local wines, chilled sake, and shochu freely. Access is limited to guests staying in rooms “Hyakuraku” and “Kagura”, which now feature viewing hot spring baths overlooking the courtyard.
