
Myanmar Earthquake: Embassy Issues Warning, Airports Severely Damaged
The Japanese Embassy in Myanmar has issued three warnings following the earthquake that occurred near Mandalay on March 28.
The State Administration Council of Myanmar has reported 1,644 fatalities, 3,408 injuries, and 139 missing persons. Another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck on the afternoon of March 30.
A state of emergency has already been declared in the affected areas, including the Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, northeastern Shan State, Naypyidaw, and the Bago Region.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has advised against travel to all affected areas, noting that Mandalay and Naypyidaw airports have sustained significant damage and there is no timeline for reopening.
The U.S. government has issued a Level 4 travel ban, while Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is advising against travel and urging the cancellation of non-essential trips.
