Star Alliance has announced that ITA Airways will join the alliance in early 2026. This decision was confirmed at the Presidential Council.
ITA Airways began operations in October 2021. Although the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance initially funded it entirely, it became part of a group when Lufthansa Group acquired a stake in January. On March 30, the terminals for departures and arrivals in Frankfurt and Munich were consolidated. The airline will withdraw from the SkyTeam alliance by April 30.
ITA Airways CEO Jörg Eberhart commented, “We are very pleased to join the Star Alliance network and integrate our excellent Made-in-Italy technology to further enhance its global deployment. This is a significant milestone in ITA Airways’ growth, and we look forward to providing our customers with the benefits of the world’s largest airline network.”
With this, the number of Star Alliance member airlines will expand to 26, operating over 18,000 flights daily to 192 countries.
