The UK government will raise the application fee for the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) starting April 9.
The fee will be increased from the current £10 (approximately 1,940 yen) to £16 (approximately 3,104 yen). Applications can be made through a dedicated app or website and are usually approved within three business days. The validity period is two years from the date of issuance.
The amendment submitted to the UK Parliament estimates an additional tax revenue of £269 million annually. Following feedback from the aviation industry, the requirement for transit passengers not involving entry or exit has been temporarily exempted.
