The UK government has approved the expansion plan for London Luton Airport.
On February 27, 2023, London Luton Airport Operations (LLAOL), the airport’s operating company, submitted the application. The expansion will enlarge the terminals, taxiways, and transport infrastructure. As a result, the annual passenger capacity will be increased from 18 million to 32 million. The additional economic impact is estimated to be approximately £1.5 billion, with the creation of up to 11,000 new jobs anticipated.
Since 2013, LLAOL has invested significantly in airport infrastructure, increasing the annual passenger number from 10 million in 2013 to about 18 million currently. Many low-cost carriers (LCCs) such as easyJet, Wizz Air, Jet2, and Ryanair operate flights at this airport.
