Rakuten Mobile Supports In-flight Roaming on International Flights
Peach Aviation has begun a demonstration test of “Level 4” autonomous driving of GSE vehicles in the ramp area of Terminal 2 at Kansai International Airport.
The test is being conducted in cooperation with Panasonic Holdings, Nagase Industries, and Kansai Airports. After conducting a “Level 3” demonstration test where humans intervened under specific conditions from December 2024 to April 20 of this year, a “Level 4” demonstration test, which features fully autonomous driving under specific conditions, is being carried out until the end of April.
The test uses the Tracteasy “EZTow” provided by Nagase Industries, examining driving performance adapted to airport-specific environments such as detecting pedestrians on roads and crosswalks, stopping and restarting, and conducting precise driving in space-constrained baggage return areas. It is said that combining autonomous driving and remote operation makes it possible to centrally manage vehicles across multiple airports through remote control.
The goal is to enhance customer service by shortening the start time for checked baggage return, and expectations are high for labor-saving and reducing human resources in airport handling operations.
