Finnair Temporarily Lays Off 36 Pilots Due to Prolonged Strike Impact
Japan Airlines (JAL) introduced the Airbus A350-1000 on the Tokyo/Haneda to Paris route on May 1. The inaugural flight utilized the first aircraft received on December 11, 2023 (registration: JA01WJ), marking a return to France for the Toulouse-built aircraft after approximately a year and a half.
The A350-1000 will operate on odd days from May 1 to 4 and August 1 to 30, and on even days otherwise. Traditional Boeing 777-300ERs will be used on the other days. From May 5 to June 30, this route will operate daily temporarily due to aircraft rotation logistics.

Flight JL45, the first from Tokyo/Haneda, had 232 passengers out of a total 239 seats across four classes: 6 in First Class, 54 in Business Class, and 172 in Economy Class (including Premium Economy). Nearly full, it departed from spot 112 at 10:27 AM.
Before JL45’s departure, JL43 to London (registration: JA06WJ) was at spot 111, departing at 9:45 AM, JL6 to New York (registration: JA08WJ) at spot 113, departing at 11:05 AM, and JL12 to Dallas (registration: JA05WJ) at spot 114, departing at 10:55 AM. This created a rare sight of four A350-1000 aircraft together from around 9:22 AM until JL43 departed.
To commemorate the A350-1000’s launch on the Paris route, Haneda Airport’s First Class Lounge began offering a special menu on May 1, available for about a month. Offerings include charcuterie, bouillabaisse, and macarons, and will end when supplies run out. Additionally, commemorative cookies were served onboard the first flights departing Tokyo/Haneda and Paris.
JAL has ordered 13 A350-1000 aircraft, of which they have received 9, from the first unit to the ninth unit. Currently, these aircraft serve the Tokyo/Haneda routes to New York, Dallas, London, and Paris. Additionally, starting June 30, they will be introduced on the Tokyo/Haneda to Los Angeles route, flights JL15 and JL16. With this addition, A350-1000 will serve five routes. However, unlike the other four routes, the Los Angeles flight departs Haneda in the afternoon, so the sight of five A350-1000 together will not occur.
