
Indian Military Attack on Pakistan Leads to Flight Cancellations
The Japan Tourism Agency has revealed the results of the 2024 Travel and Tourism Consumption Trends Survey.
The domestic travel spending by Japanese in 2024 amounted to 25.1536 trillion yen, a 14.8% increase from the previous year. Among this, overnight travel accounts for 20.3 billion yen, while day trips account for 4.8 billion yen.
The total number of domestic travelers was 539.95 million (an 8.5% increase from the previous year), with overnight travel at 293.14 million (a 4.2% increase) and day trips at 246.81 million (a 14.1% increase). All of these figures are below 2019 levels.
The expenditure per domestic trip was 46,585 yen (a 5.8% increase), with overnight travel at 69,362 yen (a 9.7% increase) and day trips at 19,533 yen (a 2.7% increase). The increase in overnight travel was particularly notable, up 26% compared to 2019.
The total travel expenditure, including domestic spending by Japanese on overseas travel and inbound foreign tourist travel, was 34.3 trillion yen. Japanese overseas travel accounted for 1 trillion yen, and inbound foreign tourist travel accounted for 8.1 trillion yen.
