The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and JR Hokkaido announced that the Hokkaido Shinkansen will operate at a speed of 260 km/h in the Seikan Tunnel over a 6-day period during Obon.
The implementation dates are August 11, 12, and 15 to 18. In the approximately 54 km section within the Seikan Tunnel, the speed will be increased from the current 160 km/h to 260 km/h, shortening the travel time by about 5 minutes. It will affect a total of 15 trains: 7 northbound and 8 southbound from the first train until around 3:30 PM, and a total of 10 trains on August 11 only, including 4 northbound and 6 southbound until around noon.
Along with this, some “Hakodate Liner” trains connecting to the Shinkansen and some Shinkansen trains stopping at Kikonai Station will have their schedules changed.
