ANA Introduces Shark Skin Film on 777F Cargo Aircraft for Fuel Efficiency and CO2 Reduction
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced its prediction that the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) will reach 2 million tons by 2025.
This accounts for 0.7% of the total fuel consumption, potentially increasing fuel costs by 4.4 billion USD due to production. The association is urging governments to address disadvantages faced by renewable energy producers and ensure an appropriate proportion of renewable energy production, which serves as a raw material for SAF, is allocated to SAF production.
In the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom, a regulation mandating a 2% SAF ratio came into effect this January, with gradual increases planned. This regulation mandates the purchase of 1 million tons in Europe, anticipated to result in a cost increase of 1.2 billion USD at current market prices. The regulation has been criticized for being enacted before sufficient market conditions were developed, as it could potentially reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.5 million tons.
