JR East Upgrades Shinkansen Early Earthquake Detection System for Swift Emergency Stops
JR East is expanding the service area of “Ekinet Q-Ticket.”
Starting October 1st, it will be available for use at each station on the Tohoku Shinkansen between Tokyo and Koriyama stations, as well as within Tokyo’s 23 wards.
“Ekinet Q-Ticket” is an electronic ticket that can be used outside of the Suica area without needing a physical ticket. It allows the use of ticket gates with a boarding QR code. It enables the purchase of regular train and Shinkansen/limited express tickets, and also offers discounts like the Otona no Kyujitsu Club Discount, Shareholder Benefit Discount, and JRE BANK Benefit Discount. The service was initially launched in the Tohoku area in October 2024, with plans to gradually expand, covering all of the JR East area by the end of the 2026 fiscal year.
