On July 25, “Jungleia Okinawa” is set to have its grand opening in northern Okinawa, where the World Natural Heritage “Yanbaru Forest” stretches. A pre-opening ceremony was held on July 24 within the park.
The ceremony took place under heavy rain due to the approach of Typhoons No. 7 and 8. However, Morio Morioka, CEO of Katana, who took the podium, described the weather as a “rare day” and explained, “In northern Okinawa, only 4% of the days throughout the year see all-day rain like today, and there are 240 days a year when not a single drop falls.” Furthermore, CEO Morioka considers it “an opportunity to convey the subtropical climate of Okinawa, which differs from Tokyo.” He stated, “If it weren’t for the formal attire, one could enjoy activities like ‘Buggy or Dinosaur Safari’ even more in this rain, and afterwards freshen up in the spa before heading home,” promoting the facility as one where visitors can enjoy themselves regardless of the weather.
For the opening, the operating company Japan Entertainment was established in June 2018 with local businesses. CEO Morioka reflected that the journey “has been extremely long and filled with setbacks and difficulties,” but expressed gratitude for the support received. Jungleia Okinawa was born out of a strong desire to enrich Okinawa and Japan.
CEO Morioka explained that Jungleia Okinawa was “designed and developed to create the best memories of a precious Okinawan trip.” It offers a “power vacation” that allows visitors to experience “genuine luxury, genuine excitement, and genuine sense of release” amidst the subtropical wilderness, promising a lifelong memorable experience. CEO Kenji Kato of Japan Entertainment, who followed Morioka on stage, stated that this project is not just a theme park, but a mission “to create Japan’s future from Okinawa,” highlighting operational policies to “promote Okinawa’s charm externally and build brand value,” “cultivate advanced tourism talents,” “improve transportation convenience (including countermeasures against over-tourism),” and “develop a ‘profitable structure’ where the growth of Jungleia Okinawa and the local area are interconnected.”
After the presentations by the two CEOs, a 2-minute fireworks display was complemented by a dance performance by the park’s entertainment team, adding a touch of glamor to the opening of Jungleia Okinawa.
