JR East Hosts ‘Suica Summer Festival’ at Tokyo Station with Pre-Sale and Lottery Event
Nishi-Nippon Railroad has revived some of its Kaizuka Line 600 series trains with an ice green livery, commencing operation on July 19.
This revival marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of Nishitetsu Train’s ice green color and responds to requests from railway enthusiasts. The cars to be revived are No. 606 and No. 656. The operation is expected to run from July 19 until August 2027.
In commemoration, photos reviewing the history of the 600 series are displayed in four locations inside the train. The exhibition will be held from July 19 to March 31, 2026.
The series, which debuted in 1962, was developed as a general-purpose train capable of handling increased congestion in urban commuter transport and could be operated from express to regular services, becoming the main train on the Omuta Line. After 1990, they were sequentially reassigned to the Miyajidake Line (now Kaizuka Line) and repainted from ice green to oxide yellow.
